  • Can I temporarily suspend my debit card?

Yes. Your Bank Midwest Mobile Banking app lets you activate or deactivate your debit card as needed at any time of the day or night.

For example, if you think you’ve just misplaced your card or forgot it at a restaurant, you can simply disable the card until you can confirm its whereabouts. You can also temporarily disable your card if you suspect theft—just make sure you report suspicious activity to us immediately.

  • Does Bank Midwest monitor for suspicious debit card activity?

Yes, we closely monitor fraud trends and card activity in order to identify various factors that may be indicative of fraudulent activity.

If we detect something suspicious, you’ll receive an alert (email, text and/or phone) from the Bank Midwest Fraud Center which gives you a chance to confirm whether the transaction is authorized.

If you call back using a phone that didn’t receive the original alert, you’ll need to verify your 16-digit card number.

This is a free service for all account holders that doesn’t require any type of sign-up.*

  • Will I recognize the fraud alert sender?

Probably not. However, the Bank Midwest Fraud Center will send text alerts from text code 86975.

  • Are chip cards more secure?

They most definitely are. Unlike magnetic-stripe cards that store static data, chip cards (a.k.a EMV cards) generate a one-time pass code for each transaction. Think of it as a digital handshake between the chip and the card reader that changes with each transaction. This means fake or rigged card readers and malware-infected terminals can’t do anything with the data they steal. Additionally, chip cards are much more difficult to replicate or counterfeit.

  • Can I change my PIN?

Yes!   If you know your current PIN, call the audio change line 833.681.3478 from a touch-tone phone. You must know the current PIN in order to change it using the automated system.

If you don’t know your existing PIN, call Bank Midwest Customer Support team at 888.902.5662 or visit a Bank Midwest location to request help changing a debit card PIN.
